If you want to keep your lawn looking its best, then applying pre-emergent herbicides is a must. Pre-emergent herbicides are designed to kill weed seeds before they have a chance to germinate and grow. In this blog post, we’ll provide you with 5 tips for applying pre-emergent herbicides effectively.
Timing is Key
Timing is critical when applying pre-emergent herbicides. For best results, you should apply pre-emergent herbicides just before weed seeds start to germinate. This usually happens in late winter or early spring, so be sure to keep an eye on the weather and soil temperatures. One of the best indicators of when to apply pre-emergent is when the forsythia begin to bloom.

Choose the Right Herbicide
There are many different pre-emergent herbicides on the market, so it’s important to choose one that’s right for your lawn. Consider factors such as the type of weeds you’re trying to control, your soil type, and the size of your lawn. Granular pre-emergents are easier to apply for beginners, however they may not be as effective as a liquid application.

Read the Label Carefully
Before applying pre-emergent herbicides, be sure to read the label carefully. This will give you important information about how to apply the herbicide, how much to use, and how often to reapply. Also pay attention to the PPE requirements. While perfectly safe once dry, you want to protect yourself and those around you from coming in contact with any product you apply.

Apply Evenly
For best results, it’s important to apply pre-emergent herbicides evenly across your lawn. This will reduce the risk of weeds growing in some areas and not others. Once applied be sure to water it in with a half an inch of water. This will create a barrier in the soil that will prevent any seeds from germinating.

Follow Up with Regular Maintenance
Finally, be sure to follow up with regular lawn maintenance after applying pre-emergent herbicides. This may include watering, mowing, and fertilizing your lawn to keep it healthy and strong.

By following these 5 tips, you can effectively apply pre-emergent herbicides to your lawn and enjoy a weed-free summer. If you have any questions or need help, please subscribe at https://www.youtube.com/@ReelLowDad

What type mower do you use? i’m looking at new Cali and McLane and used Tru Cut (travel may be an issue for those)
I use a Toro Greensmaster Flex 21. I also had a McLane. Based on what you are looking at, go with the California Trimmer. Great mowers.
